Global Outreach
Global Membership
SSO is an international organization boasting 637 members from more than 69 countries. We offer reduced membership dues to physicians from middle and low resource countries, as well as free membership to international trainees at any level.
Global Partner Societies
As part of its effort to expand our impact worldwide and in support of our Strategic Plan, SSO has valued relationships with 15 Global Partner Societies who share a desire to collaborate, interact, and foster an open exchange of ideas to advance their common goals.
International Career Development Exchange (ICDE)
Each year, SSO provides support for a member of each of our Global Partner Societies plus two Active International SSO members, to attend the SSO annual meeting and visit a US-based institution. The participants are paired with an SSO member based on shared clinical interests who serves as their host for the week-long institutional visit.
Observership Opportunities
As part of our ongoing collaborations, select Global Partner Societies offer SSO members a reciprocal International Career Development Exchange Program opportunity including an observership in their respective countries. Recipients of this award will be able to participate in clinical and educational activities, observe procedures and surgeries, and attend patient rounds, as well as attend the Partner Society’s annual meeting.
Global Posters Program
At each SSO annual meeting, 1 oral abstract and up to 9 top poster abstracts from each of our Global Partner Societies are invited for display or presentation. The abstracts are selected by the Global Partner leadership from the Top Abstracts at their annual congress. This provides members of Global Partner Societies an outstanding opportunity to present their work on a large international stage.
Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons
The Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons (GFCS) was formed at SSO 2017 to address the lack of adequate surgical care for cancer patients globally and create a framework to improve the delivery of surgical care to cancer patients through global collaborative efforts.
The GFCS is currently made up of 15 global member societies who meet semi-annually and collaborate throughout the year to close gaps in resources and cancer care worldwide.
